About The Service

The Education and Lifelong Learning Directorate provides the strategic, professional and operational support to enable the Council to fulfil its responsibilities for early years education,  statutory age education, education in school sixth forms and a youth service.

There are 127 schools in Cardiff consisting of 3 nursery schools, 98 Primary Schools, 18 Secondary Schools, 7 Special Schools & 1 Pupil Referral Unit.

The work of the Directorate is organised into six service areas: Partnerships & Performance, Inclusion Services, Targeted Services, Key Groups, Services to Schools, and School Organisation and Access and Planning.

Each of these supports the overall purpose of improving the achievement of learners. The Directorate also commissions the Central South Consortium to provide School Improvement Services to all of its schools.

About the job

  • To assist in the arrangements for the Admission of pupils across the 3-16 age range (nursery, primary and secondary annual allocations and in year transfers) to and within, Cardiff community schools in accordance with the Local Authorities (LA's) published admissions criteria and the Welsh Government (WG) Code of Practice on School Admissions.

What We Are Looking For From You

  • To work as a member of a team with schools and other service areas to ensure the highest levels of service delivery, including liaison with benefits, Housing, Social Services, Council Tax, recognised Third Sector partners and others as appropriate to ensure effective placement of children.
  • To understand, support and advise a wide range of customers who will be making enquiries concerning all Admission services through multiple channels of access.
  • To work with current and emerging digital technology to enhance customer contact and effective, efficient administration, verification and allocation of education places across the 3-16 age range.
  • To input, verify and check data regarding pupil details into the database used by the service to enable accurate records and allocations and minimise errors.
  • To ensure continuous improvement in service provision, initiating facilitating and responding to change in a positive manner.
  • To provide accurate, meaningful and consistent advice to customers, ensuring that they understand the action, which will be taken relating to them/their children).
  • To contribute toward preparation of statistical information and effective reporting regarding allocations and admissions.
  • To commit to personal and professional development to enable a comprehensive service delivery and maximum flexibility across the team and different types of places allocation.
