An exciting opportunity has arisen for three CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy) Trainees to be appointed within the Finance section of the Resources Directorate.
The Council is seeking dynamic individuals with drive and creativity to work closely with directorates, who are responsible for a significant amount of public money and resources, in delivering council objectives.
The Finance section provides an important role in supporting good financial stewardship, management and reporting.
About the job
Specifically, within Accountancy and Internal Audit, where post holders will be placed:
- Management Accounting provides much needed support ranging from the setting and management of operating budgets, to supporting the development of major projects, such as the new 16,500 capacity indoor area.
- Financial Accounting is essential for the accurate recording and reporting the Council’s finances within its financial systems and financial statements.
- Internal Audit provides vital independent assurance on the effective, efficient, and economic use of resources, that good standards have been upheld and on matters of compliance and control.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful applicants will be sponsored by the Authority to study for the CIPFA professional qualification over a period of 3 years, during which time they will gain valuable career experience within Accountancy and Internal Audit.

Continuing employment in this post is dependent upon both exam success and satisfactory work performance, with an opportunity for promotion to a Grade 7 position when qualified. Failure at any stage of the professional exams may result in termination of employment.

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
