About The Service

The post will be part of the Education Directorate and sit within the Targeted Support Service. This comprises the Education Welfare and Education other than at School teams along with Engagement and safeguarding functions. 

The service works closely with other parts of the Education directorate as well as other support services such as Children's Services, Early Help and Youth Justice.

About the job

We are looking to recruit a centrally employed Community Focused School officer to coordinate and liaise with cluster CFS managers and Team Around the School operations serving communities with high levels of socio-economic disadvantage.

The post holder will meet regularly with colleagues from other local authorities (virtually) to share good practice and share ideas.

This is a new post which the post holder will be supported to develop.

What We Are Looking For From You

The key tasks are.

  • Work with Cluster CFS managers and schools to address engagement issues with the community, families, carers, and learners.
  • Develop a Community Engagement Plan, map key stakeholders, and identify ways in which partnership working could benefit the school, learners, and the community.
  • Help address issues around the community use of the school facilities where possible.
  • Develop or integrate with a partnership structure to develop joint strategies with other agencies such as healthcare, Healthy Schools coordinators, social services, Education Welfare, youth engagement and progression, third sector, sport and leisure, hubs, adult learning and early years provision.
  • Develop a report on how community resources may be used by the school/s to support children and their families, and how the school/s can support families and the wider community.
  • Consider how to support children from disadvantaged backgrounds and those with protected characteristics under equalities legislation, Children Looked After or other vulnerabilities.
  • Support the development of strategies for dealing with attendance issues, low attainment and well-being issues for disadvantaged pupils and monitor their impact.
  • Working closely with Family Engagement practitioners
