Cardiff Council has a requirement to inspect, investigate, record and remove all reports of fly tipping on the adopted highway. Our Neighbourhood Services Education and Enforcement Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice Fly Tipping Services Driver based at Lamby Way Depot, Lamby Way, Rumney, CF3 2HP or Brindley Road Depot , Colleridge road Our education enforcement team are responsible for fly tipping throughout the city of Cardiff. The team are responsible for ensuring all reports of fly tipping to be removed within 5 working days. The team are vital in ensuring offenders of fly tipping are held accountable for their actions and work as a team to help keep Cardiff a clean, safe and sustainable environment to Live. Working as one team to keep our streets clean.
About the job
Removal of fly tipping reported or witnessed, using methods and systems of work provided by management. Ensuring accurate note taking of fly tipped items in accordance with waste data flow requirements. Will be authorised to conduct investigations that lead to enforcement activity. Work alongside waste enforcement officers to aid them to progress any cases that could lead to enforcement action. In this Corporate Apprentice role you will support our service and will learn to:
- Adhere to health and safety guidance in the workplace
- Safely remove fly tipping.
- Correctly record and robustly audit cases of fly tipping leading to enforcement action.
- Safely distribute and load vehicle to be compliant with weight / load per vehicle assigned.
- Work as part of a team
- Help customers with their enquiries
- Accurately take notes and record on data bases and document management systems
- Utilise technology for recording investigations and work conducted on document management system using mobile phone and PC.
There may also be potential for the 15 months apprenticeship to be extended for 12 months for you to attain an HGV licence (subject to budget and performance and capability). The service team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner. The Corporate Apprentice Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferable skills to help support your career progression. Working hours are 6.30am – 2.30pm Monday to Friday.

We are looking for individuals who are interested in our work, keen to learn in the role and in helping us making a difference to our customers by delivering exceptional public services in Cardiff. You will work closely with your team members, residents and directing operational staff to deliver our commitments in relation to fly tipping removals and investigations.
Our Corporate Apprentices gain valuable experience working for the largest Council in Wales. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the appointed candidate will go on to secure a further role at the end of this initial contract, they will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation, in order to progress their career.

This post is temporary for 15 months from date of commencement if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37 hour week although many roles can be worked on a part time basis.
This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £9.50 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
