Our Corporate Apprentice Scheme offers a 15 month Apprentice role which is open to Cardiff residents, currently living or studying in Cardiff. As a Corporate Apprentice you will work within the service area team outlined below to develop a variety of workplace skills, knowledge and experience in our large and varied organisation and undertake a Level 2 Warehousing & Storage Foundation Apprenticeship qualification relevant to the role.

Our Council Joint Equipment Service team are offering the opportunity to join them as a Corporate Apprentice based at our warehouse, Units 2-3 Lambourne Crescent, Cardiff Business Park, Llanishen, CF14 5GF

About the job

In this role the successful applicant will have the opportunity to develop a wide range of workplace skills and experience, as well developing knowledge and understanding of the work and responsibilities of working in Local Government in Cardiff. 

The Council Joint Equipment Service team provides equipment to people within Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. We order, deliver, collect and maintain a wide range of mobility aids to help people live as independently as possible within their own homes.

Equipment is ordered by health care professionals, such as District Nurses, Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapists and includes a wide range items from specialist beds and hoists to bathing equipment and seating and walking equipment used by children is schools.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver a first class service.

What We Are Looking For From You

You will develop skills in health, safety and security at work, safe storage of a range of products, picking goods for a team of drivers and installers, processing orders for customers, assembling products for dispatch and storage, moving and handling goods (including use of equipment), use a forklift truck in logistics operations (fork lift licence and training), low level maintenance and refurbishment of stock items, dealing with customers, developing effective working relationships with colleagues in logistics. Assisting with general enquiries relating to stock items from clinicians, administrative colleagues and members of the public. Preparing and moving equipment for clinical assessment purposes (within our on-site Independent Living Centre facility). You will be supporting to complete the Foundation Apprenticeship in Warehousing & Storage (Level 2) in this role.

You will also receive full training in the use of our online stock management and logistics system and handheld digital devices.

As a Corporate Apprentice we will help and encourage you to develop skills that will support you with your future career. You will be encouraged to take on a wide range of logistical and storage tasks, quality assurance, stock level observation, taking receipt of deliveries, customer support and warehouse efficiency. You will receive supervision, on the job training and support from a named mentor within the team, who will help you to develop. As Apprentice you will be developing to provide efficient support in a positive, customer focused manner.

Please note that this service operates from 8am – 4pm Monday - Thursday

and 8am – 3:30pm on Friday. 

You will not be required to work outside of these hours with the exception of at least one weekend working shift (8am – 4pm) for the purposes of an annual stock take during the course of your placement.

This post is temporary for 15 months from date of commencement.

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £9.50 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
