About The Service
You will earn £21,029 per annum working full time (37hrs),or £10.90 per hour pro rata, as we are Voluntary Living Wage Employer. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.

Our Advice Line Team is looking to employ a Corporate Trainee based at based at County Hall, Atlantic Wharf, CF10 4UW to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver over the phone service to the citizens of Cardiff. The Advice Line is a first point of contact for Cardiff residents for most Council services such as: money advice, council enquiries, housing advice, adult learning, free school meals, into work, fostering services, self -isolation support payments, Welsh Governments schemes and grants and many more. The service is extremely busy and fast paced with approx. 5,000 calls per month.
This role may involve home working and equipment will be provided should this be required.
About the job
In this Corporate Trainee role you will support our service and will learn to:
work as part of a team to deliver a first-class service. You will develop excellent customer skills, general business administration skills for example, using Word and Excel, answering telephones, using IT daily and helping customers over the phone with their enquiries and developing customer service and business administration skills in a busy customer focused office environment. You will also support customers over the phone to make welfare benefit claims online and to support customers to digitally self-serve where possible.
Full training will be provided by our Team who will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner.
The Corporate Apprentice & Trainee Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferrable skills to help support your career progression.
Many of our teams have moved to online and homeworking and you will be encouraged to develop the skills to support this. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity (some support may be available to help with this).
Please note that Advice Line is open from 9am – 6pm Monday – Wednesday and Friday, 10am – 7 pm on Thursday and Saturday from 9am – 5.30 pm. You will be required to work on a rota basis, and this will include some evening and weekend work.
