Our East Hubs Team is looking to employ a Corporate Trainee based within the East Community Hubs including St Mellons, Llanrumney, Rumney and the Llanedeyrn hubs.

Community Hubs provide a face to face service to the citizens of Cardiff and a main focus on community wellbeing. The Hubs provide help and support with Universal Credit, Welfare Benefits, Council Tax, Housing, Bus passes for the elderly and disabled, Free School Meals, Education, Bulky waste orders, as well as a variety of other council services including library provision & Community Hub events. 

About the job

In this Corporate Trainee role you will support our service and will learn to

work as part of a team to deliver a first class service. You will develop general office administration skills for example, using word and excel, answering telephones, using IT daily, helping customers with their enquiries and developing excellent customer service skills. You will also support customers to make welfare benefit claims on line and support customers to digitally self-serve where possible. You will assist in setting up and the running of community events and groups.

The service team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner. The Corporate Trainee Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferrable skills to help support your career progression.

You will receive the Voluntary Living Wage rate in this role, which is currently £9.30 per hour. Most roles are based on a 37hour week although many roles can be worked on a part time basis. You will receive 27 days paid holiday plus bank holidays.

We are moving to online and homeworking working and you will be encouraged to develop the skills to support this. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity.

This role will be located within the East district of Cardiff which will include the Community hubs of St Mellons, Llanrumney, Rumney and Llanedeyrn  

Please note that Community Hubs are open from 9am – 6pm plus one late night a week – closing at 7pm and Saturday from 9am – 5.30 pm. You will be required to work on a rota basis and this will include some evening and weekend work.

Whilst we cannot guarantee that the appointed candidate will go on to secure a further role at the end of this initial contract, they will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation, in order to progress their career.

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £9.50 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
