About The Service

Cardiff Harbour Authority maintenance team was created to maintain the Cardiff Barrage. An Electrical Engineering post has become available as part of the Barrage Engineering Team.

The successful candidate will be required to carry out inspection, diagnosis and repair of all plant and equipment on site. In particular ensuring the flood defences for the Bay and feeding Taff and Ely rivers.

In return Cardiff Harbour Authority will provide a training package to include the opportunity of further education and development.

About the job

To carry out inspections, testing and repairs across the Barrage site as directed including Cardiff International White Water, Pont y Werin Bridge and associated areas.

Candidates must have gained a formal Electrical apprenticeship and have a suitable Engineering Certification (HNC or similar). The role requires a high level of Electrical Engineering knowledge particularly with regards to hydraulic control.

The post will provide a unique opportunity for those who have significant Electrical Engineering experience. The selected candidate will be expected to be flexible, an excellent team worker and have good communication skills. They must be enthusiastic and able to demonstrate initiative. Fault finding and problem solving skills are essential. In addition, heavy industry experience is a requirement of the post.

The successful candidate must be prepared to work outside of normal hours and in all weather conditions. A statutory requirement under the post is to be able to arrive on site and carrying out rectifications works within an hour of any major failure being identified.

What We Are Looking For From You

  1. To operate, test and maintain all plant and associated equipment
  2. To undertake front line fault-finding, maintenance and repair of all site equipment.
  3. To effectively fault find on all site equipment in particular Sluices, Locks Bridges and Fish Pass.
  4. Undertake the necessary maintenance of all related equipment to meet statutory requirements.
  5. Assist in the set up of planned preventative maintenance systems for Pont y Werin Bridge and Cardiff International White Water
  6. Supervision of contract maintenance where required, to include dive teams and lifting operations.
  7. Operate gantry and mobile cranes on site work from man baskets and at height, in galleries, over water,etc.
  8. Undertake the necessary installation work to enhance or improve any site services and any such related facilities.
  9. Participate in the acquisition of essential spares for the site and ensure that all procured spares are cost efficient.
