About The Service
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Housing and Communities Directorate for a Family Gateway Contact Officer at the Cardiff Family Advice and Support Service.
This service is fundamental to delivering the Councils ‘no wrong door’ approach to ensuring that children, young people and their families are provided with the right support at the right time. By providing help at the lowest level of intervention, this new service aims to reduce the number of families requiring remedial intervention, ensuring that all families can achieve their very best outcomes.
About the job
The postholder will work as part of the Family Gateway Team (First Point of Contact e.g. telephone, web and email enquiries) to provide information, advice and assistance as part of the Cardiff Family Advice and Support Service.
The telephone line is open from 8:30am - 5:00pm each day and a shift pattern is in place for cover. Shift patterns are subject to review and business need.

What We Are Looking For From You
Applications are welcome from those with the ability to empathise, as well as excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills to effectively build rapport and give accurate advice. The post holder will be responsible for dealing promptly and appropriately with enquiries, identifying and where possible, meeting people’s needs at the earliest point. The right individual will be able to recognise whether there are any safeguarding concerns and be able to consult and liaise with Social Workers and with other professionals/partner agencies, as required.
The role also requires the successful candidate to be resilient in effectively managing numerous calls and having the ability to prioritise and adapt to the needs of their workload. You will have the skills to remain calm under pressure and be able to self-motivate in challenging circumstances.
The applicate will need to be familiar with using process maps providing efficient referrals to be made with our referral partners.
An in-depth and current knowledge of services that support families, ability to work across administration systems and a sound working knowledge of Microsoft software will compliment your ability to prioritise workloads.
