About The Service
The Planning, Transport & Environment directorate is playing a major role in managing Cardiff’s rapid growth and responding to the climate emergency. We are currently taking forward a range of projects that seek to transform Cardiff’s transport system, increase sustainable travel, provide cleaner air and improve the health and wellbeing of Cardiff residents.
About the job
This post is an exciting opportunity to play an active part in re-shaping the city and delivering the Council’s ambitious sustainable and active travel agenda.
The post will involve working with schools in their implementation of School Active Travel Plans to help increase sustainable and active journeys to school as an alternative to car-based school travel. This will require direct engagement with Cardiff’s schools to support them with promotion of sustainable and active travel to school through formal and informal learning linked to the curriculum and communications with the wider school community. Working to integrate and embed active travel within the culture of individual schools is a key element of the role which will involve the design and regular review/updating of active travel-themed teaching/learning resources linked to the national school curriculum in Wales. The role will also involve supporting the implementation of physical infrastructure (including highways management) within school sites and across the wider neighbourhood setting of schools.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful candidate will have a firm commitment to sustainable and active travel. Through having a relevant qualification, training and/or equivalent previous experience, they will be capable of effectively managing all aspects of delivering infrastructure schemes from inception to completion within a multi-disciplinary environment. Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to engage and collaborate effectively with colleagues, Council Members and external partners and stakeholders is an essential part of this role.
