About The Service
The Payroll Team within Cardiff Council sits within the wider HR Strategy Team which in turn is part of the wider HR People Services function and is an important part of the end-to-end service that is provided to managers and employees.
Cardiff Council is one of the largest public sector employers in South Wales, this service provides a comprehensive payroll function to over 15,000 employees, supporting the smooth running of over 700 services across the city.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual to manage the established and experienced Payroll team.
About the job
This role will lead the Payroll team to ensure all employees are paid in a timely and accurate manner. You will be required to resolve issues that have been escalated within the team.
The successful candidate will lead, implement and embed changes and improvements to payroll functions to ensure that it is a modern and efficient service.
The role will be the lead payroll contact with other teams across the council, as well as external agencies.
You will lead, manage and guide your team, provide clear goals and build on your team’s professional development.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic line manager for the service who will understand legislation governing tax, national insurance, statutory and non-statutory deductions.
You will have excellent time management and delegation skills to ensure set deadlines for payroll activities are met by your team.
You will have outstanding communication skills, being able to convey complex information to non-technical audiences, as well as an ability to guide others in the resolution of complex pay queries.
