About The Service

Cardiff’s Parks and green spaces provide a wealth of facilities for children and young people to enjoy outdoor activity. The city’s 150+ playgrounds, skate parks, multi-use games areas and other teen facilities have seen levels of use not previously experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic and this new role will provide technical support for a small, dedicated team engaged in maintaining the city’s playground and teen facilities.
About the job
You will be responsible for facilitating, supporting and implementing maintenance works on playgrounds, skateparks, multi use games areas (MUGAs), BMX tracks and adult fitness equipment to ensure they are operational and safe for public use in accordance with the relevant safety standards.
You will manage the playground workshop and stores, ensuring supplies of equipment, parts and PPE are maintained. You will be competent in the range of skills needed to service, repair and refurbish play equipment both in the workshop and on site. You will also have site construction experience to be able to repair and install gates, fences, playground surfacing and grassed areas.
What We Are Looking For From You
You will need to have practical experience as a playground inspector or manager and a good understanding of the legislative and risk management environment that impacts on fixed equipment play provision.
You will need to be flexible and adaptable, with an eye for detail. You must be accurate, with good organisational skills, and an ability to communicate with people at all levels. The ability to use Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Experience of the use of Playsafe asset management software or similar, would also be beneficial.
Above all, you must have a “can-do” attitude, be able to solve problems under your own initiative, and be able to initiate and prioritise your own work as well as directing the work of others, to react to the demands of the service.

Owing to the nature of the role, the post-holder may required to attend sites outside of normal working hours.
