About The Service

Several exciting opportunities are currently available within Cardiff Council’s Migration Policy and Services Team. These are new roles as we expand our existing team and grow our local service offer to support new arrivals in the city.

The Migration Policy and Services Team are based within the Policy & Partnerships department, within the Community Safety and Cohesion unit.

The team works in close partnership with a range of local stakeholders to design, coordinate and implement local work on refugee resettlement and our wider migration work, such as supporting EU Nationals, asylum seekers and those arriving on specific visa routes.

We are recruiting for several new positions to support our immediate response to the Ukraine crisis.

This post is initially offered as a 12 month position due to funding.

Working within a fast-paced and dynamic environment, these roles provide an incredibly rewarding opportunity to support newly arrived Ukrainian nationals in a frontline capacity and support their sponsors (hosts) as they welcome a Ukrainian family into their home.

You will be a single point of contact for newly arrived Ukrainian nationals and their sponsors in Cardiff, supporting their welcome journey and helping them to access the services they need.

In the role of Refugee Support Worker, you will provide supportive and collaborative welcome service. This will include delivering a needs-led support service to refugee clients with complex and diverse needs, including those who have recently arrived from conflict zones and have experienced forced displacement.

You will manage a caseload of refugee family arrivals, ensuing holistic assessments are undertaken to understand and respond to their needs and create appropriate short, medium, and long-term action plans for each family, involving their sponsor, local services and civil society as appropriate.

You will be a source of continuous support and advice for the individual or family through each stage of their welcome, support and integration pathway and act as their advocate, always prioritising their safety and wellbeing.

The successful post holder will demonstrate excellent problem solving and case management skills; be confident working within a multi-disciplinary team; and display competence working in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

You will receive full training to succeed in the role and will join a supportive team who will enable you to develop your skills quickly and make a significant contribution to the work of the team through the delivery of an effective support service.

What We Are Looking For From You

You will have a positive, can-do attitude and a passion for delivering the best outcomes for vulnerable people.

You will be highly motivated and able to work autonomously across different sites with minimal supervision.

This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment so you must be well-organised and able to prioritise tasks with competing priorities and maintain your professionalism.

We would also like to see that you are a good listener and communicator, familiar with the role of local government in delivering refugee resettlement and support to displaced people, recognise appropriate boundaries and that you can accurately record your engagement with clients and sponsors.  

You will also have good numeracy skills with attention to detail, and able to use Microsoft programmes such as Excel, Sharepoint and Teams.
