Residential Childcare Officers to join our experienced and dedicated team

working with children aged 7-11.

We can offer flexible working hours, whether you are looking for part time of full-time work which could fit around your personal lifestyle.

There are generous enhancements paid for evenings, weekend working, Bank Holidays and sleeping in duties, additional to your salary (additional salary enhancement of 30% after 8pm weekdays, 50% weekends and £38 per sleep in)

Ensuring the right staff are matched to the right child or young person is at the forefront of the services we deliver. You would have one stable base but from time to time your skills and approach may be better suited to working in one of our other homes. Our homes are all close together and would not involve unreasonable travel considerations.

About the job

We are looking to recruit permanent Residential Childcare Officers for one of our new Children’s homes in Cardiff to join our experienced and dedicated team working with children aged 7-11.

We are looking for people who:

  • Will be flexible to the changing needs of the service.
  • Are able to work on a shift pattern, that may be subject to change, depending on the needs of the service and the children. This will include waking nights on a rota basis
  • Are willing to be trained in a hybrid model of working under the right place model, that may require working with families in the home and wider community.
  • Be available to work across all Residential Homes, should the need arise.

As such you may be working at a specific home but also expected to work and support other Childrens homes as and when needed. On occasions you may be requested to change your rota to ensure the contingencies of the service are covered. This may also include covering an additional sleep-in duty as an emergency measure.

We are looking for individuals to help ensure children and young people receive a high level and quality of individual support throughout their time in our homes.

You will be working within a team supporting children and young people to achieve positive outcomes, build appropriate relationships and have fun, being there at every step of their development.

You need to be willing to learn and share experiences, skills and knowledge whilst also putting children and young people at the centre of your role.

What We Are Looking For From You

As a Residential Childcare Officer, you will play an essential part in providing direct care and effective support to young people to enable them to achieve positive outcomes in line with their childcare personal plan.

Every day is different, and you will face new challenges, we need staff members with a can-do attitude, that are willing to go above and beyond for the young people in their care.

We need our team to help recognise and promote young people’s individuality, uniqueness and diverse needs whilst providing a nurturing and positive environment.

As part of the role, you will

  • participate fully in the caring and supported living environment within the home which will involve household cleaning, maintenance, meal preparation and helping young people get around to events, activities, education, appointments, and meetings.
  • actively support the education plans for children, which may include homework, revision, project work and other educational activities.
  • encourage reading and intellectual development of young people by creating a positive environment for learning and support creating positive links with schools, attending events, activities, and parent’s evenings as appropriate.
