Cardiff Children’s Services has a Safeguarding Adolescents from Exploitation (SAFE) Partnership and Service that oversees its work associated with Child Exploitation, Missing Children and the Home Office’s National Referral Mechanism (NRM) for Trafficking and Modern Slavery.
Tackling Youth Exploitation is a substantial area of work for the SAFE Team with Children’s Services and supports the development and implementation of a city-wide approach for contextual safeguarding. This work will focus on both the prevention of issues such as knife crime and criminal exploitation, and support for key pieces of work that respond to child exploitation when it takes place, supporting young people to access the support that they need.

About the job
This is an exciting development opportunity to take a lead role in the development and management of all aspects of the externally funded Youth Endowment Fund (YEF) Keeping and Staying SAFE project including chairing the weekly MDT meetings and reporting on the project deliverables to YEF / Council members, Senior Managers and partners.
The successful candidate will ensure the delivery of the targeted YEF funded MDT services for young people aged 10 - 20 years in the agreed project specific areas, who are at risk of criminal exploitation, and their families.
The SAFE Service is a strength based, responsive service that works in partnership with adolescents and one that delivers a key message that we are investing in and safeguarding young people into adulthood. The role will co-ordinate a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on developing a robust approach to support the achievement of our vision to prevent child criminal exploitation.
It will involve joint work with services such as Health, the Police, Youth Justice Service, Youth Service, and Education. This is about strengthening multi agency working and pathways.
This fixed term funded post in our YEF project will involve you playing a key role to:
- support a city-wide and community-based understanding of Contextual Safeguarding and increase participation and delivery in this area of work with a broad range of partners across Cardiff.
- coordinate and lead a MDT approach and panel in two community based areas in the city within the context of the SAFE partnership, enabling young people to be diverted from exploitation, youth violence and serious organised crime at the earliest opportunity, ensuring a clear referral pathway to specialist support and interventions. From the rage of MDT project partners.
- lead on the co-design / co-production and evaluation elements of the YEF funded project with other members of the MDT and project partners to ensure the active involvement and representation of children, young people, their parents and cares in the development of this project.
- develop / promote multi agency working that will contribute to the planning, evaluation, review and reporting of this YEF funded project, policies, procedures and guidance in order to ensure compliance and delivery of the projects intended outcomes / outputs.
- implement evidence-based practices, approaches and interventions; ensure that an excellent standard of work practice exists within the team, and maintain and develop knowledge of research, practice developments, new initiatives and procedures and to utilise these when planning for project.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful candidate will have a relevant professional qualification in social work, or equivalent in nursing, education, youth work or other job-related field. Proven experience of working with and understanding the risks presented to adolescents by exploitation and being aware of the varied and complex current issues that face young people.
