We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Residential Childcare Officer to work with some of our most vulnerable children and young people In Cardiff.

To apply for this role, you must have experience of working in residential settings with young people, be registered with Social Care Wales and have or be willing to work towards the Level 3 – Children and young person (practice) qualification or equivalent.

About Crosslands Children’s Home

Crosslands is part of Cardiff Social Services and delivers high quality care for up to 6 young people between the ages of 11 – 17.

The team works in a trauma informed and child centred way by building positive connections and trust with our young people who may display social, emotional and behavioural difficulties due to adverse trauma and supporting them with their personal goals and outcomes.

We are looking for a Senior Residential Childcare Officer to join our team!

We are looking for people who:

 

  • will be flexible to the changing needs of the service.
  • are willing to be trained in a hybrid model of working under the right place model, that may require working with families in the home and wider community.
  • have proven experience of working with young people with emotional, physical, social, behavioural and complex needs.
  • understand the importance and responsibility of the safeguarding and protection of children, and how to appropriately escalate concerns if they are raised.
  • enjoy a physically, actively and emotionally challenging role
  • are enthusiastic, motivated and have a “can-do” attitude.
  • will provide individualised care through the development of professional and effective relationships.
  • are able to communicate well with children and young people, families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • will motivate and support the team in achieving positive outcomes for our young people in a demanding and challenging environment.

What We Are Looking For From You

Key responsibilities as Senior Residential Childcare Officer will include:

  • Taking responsibility for the smooth and safe running of the home, ensuring that young people receive a sensitive service best meeting their social, racial, psychological, educational, cultural, physical identity and health care needs.
  • Participating in regular, planned and specific pieces of work to meet a young persons identified needs.
  • Creating and maintaining good relationships with young people, ensuring they are fully involved in decision making that affect their lives and achieving self-advocacy and independence by developing their potential to learn and achieve.
  • Participate fully in the caring and supported living environment within the home which will involve household cleaning, maintenance, meal preparation and helping young people get around to events, activities, education, appointments and meetings.
  • Act as a link worker ensuring young peoples files and plans are completed to a high standard and up to date and take lead with ensuring education and health needs are met.
  • Actively supporting and encouraging reading and intellectual development of young people by creating a positive environment for learning and support creating positive links with schools, attending events, activities and parent’s evenings as appropriate.
  • Attend and lead meetings with young people and other professionals.
  • Demonstrate leadership skills and must model good, consistent care to colleagues whilst also supervising, coaching and mentoring.
  • Support the management team in ensuring the home maintains compliance with all policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Working to a shift pattern of on average 4 out of 7 days a week including early and late shifts as well as working alternate weekends and bank holidays. There will also be some sleeping in duties dependant on service needs.
