About The Service

Bilingual Cardiff's remit is to take a leading role in developing a fully bilingual Cardiff where citizens and Cardiff Council staff can access services and support of the same standard in Welsh and English.

The team is responsible for facilitating and promoting the Welsh language in Cardiff in conjunction with our partners, and assisting the Council to comply with its statutory duty to provide services in Welsh, which includes a full translation service.

The Bilingual Cardiff unit at Cardiff Council is looking for a Senior Translator to join the team.

The successful candidate is expected to have a good degree in Welsh or equivalent with significant experience in professional translation.

The successful candidate is expected to be a member of Cymdeithas Cyfieithwyr Cymru/Association of Welsh Translators and Interpreters or be willing to sit the exam.

The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively in Welsh to
Level 5 – Proficiency.

This is a position for which the ability to speak Welsh is an essential requirement.

What We Are Looking For From You

You will have translation and proofreading skills of the highest standard and be able to support one of the Team’s Head Translators with any duties relating to the role e.g. delegate at meetings as needed, contribute to reviewing translation guidelines, advise team members on any changes to terminology, contribute to determining the names of campaigns, projects, strategies and public material.

The ability to work under pressure and finish work on time, and to work methodically and with discipline, is absolutely essential to this job, as is the ability to work and communicate in both Welsh with English.

Additional information

This post offers flexible working hours and a hybrid working model based on homeworking and working from Cardiff Council's County Hall.

The successful applicants should be able to communicate effectively in Welsh to
Level 5 – Proficiency.
