An exciting opportunity has become available for a qualified Social Worker to join the Practitioner Concerns Team in Service Improvement and Strategy Services. We are a small and stable team who offer good support and guidance to each other and to our colleagues in Children’s Services. This is an exciting time to join Cardiff, which is an Authority on the implementation journey that uses the Signs of Safety approach to focus on the support of our Children.
About the job
The PCT social worker will work remotely ( we support flexible working from home with all our meetings being undertaken via Teams) across all localities working with our partners in Police, Health and Education as well as third and private sectors to support understanding and consideration of practitioner concerns, promoting safer recruitment and practice to ensure the wellbeing and safety of children, living in, being cared for and schooled in Cardiff
While you will not have a traditional case load, the Team has a diverse variety of case work and you will be supporting the Designated Safeguarding Officer and PSW in triaging referrals and alerts, undertaking enquiries of relevant partners/providers to assist in the coordination and review of child protection procedures, criminal and employment procedures.
You will be participating in Child Protection and s5/Practitioner concerns strategy discussions and meetings: taking forward actions or monitoring the completion of actions by others and evaluating the information/evidence gathered during investigations to inform appropriate outcomes under the professional strategic process.
You will be completing chronologies to coordinate PCT’s response to concerns about individuals and organisations and will have opportunities for continual professional development within this diverse and exciting role
What We Are Looking For From You
You will be an experienced social worker, able to work independently to undertake safeguarding enquiries with key skills in analysis and risk assessment to support the Practitioner Concerns Team’s timely fair and consistent response to allegations/concerns about practitioners and those in positions of trust working with children
You must have robust safeguarding and child protection experience and a confident understanding of the legislative and policy frameworks that inform the Team’s practice. S5 training will be provided to assist in your transitioning into the team and a full induction is provided to ensure you are fully supported in your new role. As a Practitioner Concerns social worker, you must be flexible and able to work under pressure. Due to the nature of the role candidates must have front line post qualifying experience in child protection services.
A degree in Social Work is essential for this role and you must be a Registered Social Worker, as well as excellent skills in risk assessment and analysis and the ability to write concise records and reports. You will be a good team player, have excellent communication, organisation skills and IT skills.
