Our Older People & Physical Impairment service is part of Adult Services, within the directorate of Adults, Housing & Communities in Cardiff Council.

As a Directorate, we recognise that social workers are skilled professionals who make a real and material difference to people’s lives every day.  We want to develop our services and strengthen our approach to social care practice in Cardiff.

Roles are available in our Community teams in the Older People & Physical Impairment service.

We can offer you a wide range of experiences and challenges working across the Health and Social Care arena in the capital city and:

  • A service that values professional social workers and supports their practice.
  • An established approach to strength-based social work with mentor groups to encourage professional discussion and learning in a protected sessions
  • An opportunity to train as part of the delivery of strength-based delivery and mentorship.
  • Regular and quality supervision to support and sustain practitioners.
  • A proactive approach to quality assurance within the service actively seeking to promote the excellent practice we see from our social workers
  • A wide and extensive training programme with opportunities to train in specific areas and access to regular legal and practice updates.
  • Our systems and technology enable and promote agile and flexible working and Cardiff Council has a variety of supportive policies for its employees.

What We Are Looking For From You

  • A willingness to learn and develop assessment skills and a clear understanding of the Social Services and Wellbeing Act (Wales) 2014
  • A commitment to strength-based working; implementing and reviewing to ensure this is at the heart of the service
  • Ability to ensure the Citizen’s voice is always heard and supporting them to be their own decision-makers
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with the multi-disciplinary team, and at times challenging views in a non-confrontational way to ensure the best outcome for the Citizen
  • Ability to be solution-focused
  • Empathetic to the needs of the citizen and their families
  • Ability to work quickly, to tight deadlines, competent IT user, familiar with CareFirst
  • Ability to manage and identify risk and respond appropriately
  • A sound working knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards, Safeguarding Adults, Dementia and Continuing Health Care
  • The ability to carry a complex caseload and support Social Workers and Social Work Assistants with their caseload
  • Ability to chair complex meetings
  • Knowledge/skills to be an effective supervisor
  • A willingness to learn and commit to excellent practice
  • A commitment to developing confidence and knowledge in operating within the Mental Capacity Act legal framework. We will help you to gain experience of Court of Protection work and process
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of citizens is an expectation of all who work in the service area
