About The Service

The Council Youth Foods team is a venture, supported by Cardiff Council, established to provide a first class professional catering service whilst also providing quality training to apprentices, young people on work experience, employment and training opportunities.

Youth Foods has a developing catering range, which currently includes a widening range of lunchtime food items such as sandwiches, baguettes also the creation of specialist menus, patisseries and other event catering for weddings or other special occasions.

Our customer base is rapidly growing and we have acquired a number of contracts to supply our professional catering service and we are seeking to recruit a Sous Chef to work with our growing team.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver a first class service.

Youth Foods is a unique Cardiff Council initiative working in partnership with the GMB, providing high quality training and development opportunities through the provision of Apprenticeships and work experience placements in doing so enhancing the employability prospects of our young people.

People are at the centre of our service provision and the pandemic has seen the development of the service we deliver to the most vulnerable people in our city.

An opportunity exists for a self-motivated and adaptable individual with strong organisational skills to join the team, based at the County Hall Restaurant.

 

 

 

 

What We Are Looking For From You

You will have previous experience in the preparation and production of food within a commercial kitchen, experience in preparing and delivering a wide and diverse range of meals and a knowledge and understanding of Foods Safety Regulations is essential.

In a deadline driven service you will be effective communicator, have the ability to work to targets and deadlines planning your own workload and that of others and you must also possess the ability to problem solve.

You will hold the Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate, NVQ Level 2 Cookery Skills and have a thorough knowledge and understanding of the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point Regulations.

Above all, you will be a team player and be able to demonstrate a personal commitment to high standards of service provision, who is able to contribute to the wider objectives of the service ensuring that our young people fulfil their potential.

This post is temporary until 31st March 2022.
