About The Service

The Vision Impairment Team work as part of Achievement and Inclusion within Education and Lifelong Learning to support children and young people with vision impairments from birth to 19+ depending on their educational settings. We work in all settings, including nurseries, private day care settings, mainstream and specialist schools, and some post-16 provision. Our role is to support the development and learning of children with Vision impairments, and to support their inclusion and access to education ensuring that they are able to achieve their full potential.

You would be joining an enthusiastic and dynamic team fully committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes for children and young people with vision impairments.

About the job

The role of Specialist TA within this enthusiastic and friendly team involves working as part of this team to offer support to settings across Cardiff to include Vision Impaired learners successfully. Initially, the role is likely to be based within a limited number of English Medium schools, working with the school to support two students with severe/profound vision impairments. As the successful candidate builds their experience, however, this role may expand to include a wider range of settings across the city, including Welsh Medium settings.

Going forwards, a significant part of the role could involve working with Education Professionals in a range of settings to build their capacity to support VI learners' access to education, through modelling good practice, delivering training, and offering ongoing support and advice.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for a person with a good ability to communicate in a professional environment in Welsh, with strong experience, knowledge and training in the field of Additional Learning Needs. Good skills in ICT, particularly in the field of access technology and equipment for modifying and producing tactile and large print resources would be an advantage, as would a knowledge of the Braille Code, or a willingness to learn Braille.

Additional information

This post is term time and will work 39 weeks per academic year (1st September - 31st August). The salary shown however relates to 52 weeks per year and will therefore be pro-rata’d accordingly.

This post has a requirement for registration with the Education Workforce Council.
