We have a fantastic track record for supporting staff to develop their Welsh language skills and to use their language at work. Our corporate learning and development team co-ordinates an attractive and practical Welsh learning offer for hundreds of staff every year.

Our Cardiff Academy Team is looking to employ a Welsh Language Trainer who will be based at City Hall, Cardiff, CF10 3ND for a proportion of their time and also be able to work from home.

Cardiff Academy is part of our Human Resources Service, providing training opportunities for Council employees and to other public sector bodies in Cardiff. The successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver this first class service.

In this role:


You will deliver Welsh language learning courses to internal staff. The role will include teaching, developing, and co-ordinating Welsh learning opportunities for Council staff.

Taking a creative and collaborative approach with both internal and external stakeholders, you will ensure staff can access the best possible language learning programme.

Up-to-date knowledge of the field of Welsh for Adults will be key to deliver this, with the post offering the opportunity to shape an ambitious programme, addressing barriers staff may face in accessing training.

We aim to offer courses as required by Welsh Language Standards through the medium of Welsh should there be demand. Therefore, we are also looking for enthusiasm to develop a skill set to deliver relevant training courses for staff through the medium of Welsh. Full training is provided, and prior experience in a teaching, learning and development, or human resources role is advantageous.

You will work closely with the Council’s Welsh Translation and Policy Team (Bilingual Cardiff) to ensure that training meets organisational needs, the National Welsh Learning Curriculum, and Welsh Language Standards

With support from your colleagues in Cardiff Academy, you will implement a programme of courses for Council staff, with the opportunity and support to develop skills in various areas.

A proportion of training will be delivered virtually and some onsite at City Hall. You will be provided with the required device/equipment to enable homeworking.

Additional Notes – Standard working hours 9:00-17:00, Monday-Friday however flexibility when required to work outside of these hours.

What We Are Looking For From You

The successful candidate will have experience of working as a trainer, creating and delivering face-to-face training to customers whilst demonstrating a good insight into the principles behind high quality Welsh language related learning and development and the role it plays in supporting an organisation.
