About The Service

Cardiff Youth Justice Service (YJS) is a multi-agency partnership, working with children and young people aged 10-17; their families; and victims of their behaviour in order to their reduce risk of offending and reoffending, protect the public and repair harm.

As we continue upon our successful improvement journey, a vacancy has arisen to be part of the staff team to promote desistance through the development of evidenced-based interventions which promote positive outcomes for young people known to Youth Justice Service in Cardiff.

We aim to be a strengths-based responsive service that works in partnership with children and young people, their families, victims, and partners across the Local Authority to provide the very best support, challenge and growth opportunities for young people within our service.

About the job

The successful candidate will be responsible for creating effective programmes of individual and group interventions using guidance from best practice and research. The post holder will train staff to undertake the interventions created and will act as a point of consultation to YJS staff regarding methods of delivering intervention work.  Additionally, they will have a lead role in the development of a programme of activities offered to young people during school holidays and on a rolling basis throughout the year. They will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary service, making the best use of resources available within the service and the wider community to provide interventions aimed at reducing the risk factors in the lives of children and young people who offend, and promoting the factors which are likely to protect them from offending.

The post is grant funded and offered on a temporary basis, initially until 31st March 2024 and will sit within the Intensive Intervention Team. 

What We Are Looking For From You

You will have an understanding of the criminal justice system as it affects children and young people (aged 10 –17) who offend and/or commit anti-social behaviour. You will have an experience of developing tailored intervention programmes which are evidenced-based and tailored to meet varying level of need.  You will have a knowledge of the risk factors that affect children and young people in Cardiff and understand how trauma and adverse childhood experiences can affect development.  You will have project management experience and the ability to coordinate a number of projects whilst also acting as an advisor to staff within all YJS teams.

This post offers hybrid working and will not require the postholder to be in the office daily.  However, the post holder is expected to have capacity to undertake regular office visits, provide regular consultation to the team and be available for face to face meetings where appropriate.
