About The Service
ICT is part of the Council’s Customer and Digital Services Directorate.
Its primary functions are:
• to provide high quality IT systems, support and maintenance across the organisation
• to provide strategic advice and guidance to the service areas and their directorates
• to contribute to the delivery of the Council’s Digital First approach set out in the Capital Ambition programme
The ICT Service consists of several functions including:
• the Service Desk
• Enterprise Systems and Data teams responsible for the development, support and maintenance of both in-house developed and 3rd party applications
• ICT Services teams delivering network, server and end user computing services
• Security and Compliance
• Enterprise Architecture
The technologies supported are predominantly based around Microsoft Windows desktop, laptop and server platforms with applications delivered through a range of physical, virtual and cloud infrastructures.

About the job
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be a part of Cardiff Council’s innovative and essential Geographic Information Systems (GIS) service delivery.
The successful candidate will join the Application Support & Data Team and will be assisting a Senior Application Support Engineer in providing a high-quality GIS service for the Authority.
This post will have specific responsibility for the development and support of the Council’s GIS database and mapping solutions which are used extensively across a wide range of Council business areas. The post-holder will utilize GIS software to analyse spatial and non-spatial information in the database to meet business objectives and priority, delivering online map-based services for citizens and external organisations.
The post-holder will also provide advice for new application developments and projects that have a GIS or data mapping element. This is the primary focus of the post but not exclusively limited to this area. The post-holder will also support our Corporate Address databases and other IT applications managed by the Team.
The successful candidate will ideally have some experience of using or supporting GIS / Mapping software or be able to demonstrate an interest in geography and geographical information.
The role is part of a multi-skilled support team and offers an excellent opportunity to learn from more experienced members of the team.
What We Are Looking For From You
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Maintain, support and develop our Corporate GIS service.
• Provide advice and support to internal business teams so they may achieve maximum benefit from the application of GIS to their business needs.
• Liaise with the Ordnance Survey Liaison Officer on matters relating to the Ordnance Survey Public Services Mapping Agreement (PSMA).
• Administer and update the Ordnance Survey map base for the corporate GIS.
• Perform Quality Assurance of our Corporate GIS data.
• Assist with implementation, support and maintenance of other non-GIS applications as required, including our Corporate Address databases.
• Liaise with internal business teams and external organisations on the design and implementation non-GIS applications for the Authority; defining requirements, producing accurate proposals with task estimates and reporting progress.
• Develop all technical, design and support documentation to company standards.
• Take personal responsibility for own health and safety and promote compliance ensuring a safe working environment.
