About The Service
Cardiff Harbour Authority (CHA) was established on 1st April 2000 and took over the responsibilities of Cardiff Bay Development Corporation as set out in the Cardiff Bay Barrage Act 1993. In doing so the Harbour Authority performs the statutory Harbour Authority functions on behalf of Cardiff Council. The Harbour Master team operate a small fleet of specialist work vessels used to ensure the statutory functions the Harbour Authority are met and safety of navigation is maintained within the Harbour limits.
About the job
An opportunity has arisen for a Boat Master to work within the Harbour Master’s Team at Cardiff Harbour Authority. Reporting to the Harbour Master, you will be part of a team which maintains and manages the waters of Cardiff Bay.
You will manage a small team of operatives on the water and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of a variety of specialist craft and workboats within Cardiff Bay. Specific duties will include: debris collection operations; maintenance of the Bay aeration system and other marine infrastructure; the provision of a patrol service to Bay users; and assisting the Harbour Master with licensing and other aspects of Bay management including the enforcement of Byelaws and the maintenance of safe navigation.
What We Are Looking For From You
The successful candidate will have experience of Small Commercial Vessel / workboat operations as skipper and crew. The successful candidate will have a commercially endorsed advanced powerboat certificate (or equivalent qualification) applicable to Small Commercial Vessel operations. You will be capable of leading and managing a small team, and have the communication skills to be able to deal effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders. You will have a strong commitment to customer service and, ideally, be computer-literate with familiarity in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Additional information
The grade is all-inclusive and working hours are based on a rota system which incorporates weekend and bank holiday work.
