Building Control is a dynamic and varied public service provider specialising in Building Regulations and public safety principally through the Building Act 1984.

As an active member of LABC Services, Cardiff Building Control also works in partnership with local and national companies and local authorities throughout England and Wales to deliver a high quality, competitively priced nationwide service.

About the job

A key feature of the role involves undertaking site inspections of building works and applying the Building Regulations and associated guidance documents to a wide variety of development proposals. This includes small domestic schemes to minor/developments of all types. Assessment is made at design and construction stages.

In addition to the Building Regulations the role also involves safeguarding the public through the assessment of dangerous buildings and demolition schemes.

Accurate contemporary record keeping is an essential element of the job together with monitoring the activities of your own workloads ensuring performance indicators are met.

You will need to be physically able to fully perform all the functions of the post.


You will be expected to work alone and as part of a team.


What We Are Looking For From You

Applications are invited from people who can show that they have the skills and abilities required to become an effective member of the building control team and:

  • Can deliver high quality, customer focused, services;

 

  • Can deliver provision of additional Value Added Services;

 

  • Can demonstrate knowledge, experience and critical thought to construction designs and the building control process;

 

  • Can work as part of a proactive forward thinking Local Authority Building Control Service either Office or Home based;

 

  • Will be required to provide a formal agreement to undertake and pass an accredited LABC Competency Assessment at Level 4/5/6 within two years of appointment;

 

  • Have good communication skills, written and oral;

 

  • Must be adaptable and flexible, willing to take on a varied workload whilst prioritising key tasks. Site visits, meeting and surveys may occur outside normal working hours;

 

  • Must have experience in customer relations and enquiries;

 

  • Are reasonably IT literate;

 

  • Must be committed to Equal Opportunities, principles and practice;

 

  • Have a valid current driving licence and sole use of a motor vehicle, travel outside the County may be necessary;

 

  • Ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage
