Our Youth Foods Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice based at County Hall Canteen, Atlantic Wharf, Cardiff, CF10 4UW.

The Council Youth Foods team is a venture, supported by Cardiff Council, established to provide a first class professional catering service whilst also providing quality trainee apprentice, employment and training opportunities.

Youth Foods has a developing catering range, which currently includes a widening range of lunchtime food items such as sandwiches, baguettes and the creation of specialist cakes, patisseries and other event catering for weddings and other special occasions.

Our customer base is rapidly expanding and we have acquired a number of contracts to supply our professional catering service and we are seeking to recruit an Apprentice Catering Assistant to work with our growing team.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team to deliver a first class service.

You will develop a range of professional catering skills and techniques; you will be required to study level 2-apprenticeship qualification in catering as part of this role.

About the job

In this Corporate Apprentice role you will support our service and will learn to:

The service team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner. The Corporate Apprentice Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferrable skills, and to support your career progression you will undertake and complete a Level 2 Apprenticeship in Hospitality and Catering in this role.

We are moving to online and homeworking working and you will be encouraged to develop the skills to support this. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity.

Mainly our shift pattern is from 8am to 4pm but this can be subject to change depending on events we may be working on.

You will be required to work on a rota basis, this will include some evening and weekend work.

Our customers depend on us to keep delivering services even in the most challenging of times. We are looking for individuals who are interested in our work, keen to learn in the role and in helping us making a difference to our customers by delivering exceptional public services in Cardiff.

Our Corporate Apprentices gain valuable experience working for the largest Council in Wales. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the appointed candidate will go on to secure a further role at the end of this initial contract, they will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation, in order to progress their career.

As this is a development role, you cannot apply for this role if you have already gained the qualification offered in this role or an NVQ in the same subject at the same level or higher.

Unfortunately, Graduates are not eligible to apply for this post due to the level of the qualification being studied (level 2). Graduates can apply for Corporate Trainee roles and other apprentice roles offering a Level 3 qualification or above in addition to other vacancies.

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £9.50 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
