Our South Hubs Team is looking to employ a Corporate Trainee based at Grangetown Hub, Havelock Place, Grangetown, Cardiff CF11 6PE.
Our team provide a face to face service to the citizens of Cardiff. We provide help and support with Universal Credit, Welfare Benefits, Council Tax, Housing, bus passes for the elderly and disabled, free school meals, education, bulky waste orders as well as a variety of other council services including library provision and community hub events.
About the job
In this Corporate Trainee role you will support our service and will learn to develop general office administration skills for example, using word and excel, answering the telephone, using IT daily, helping customers with their enquiries and developing excellent customer service skills. You will also provide a front-of-house service and support customers to digitally self-serve where possible.
The service team will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner. The Corporate Trainee Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferrable skills to help support your career progression.
We are moving to online and homeworking working and you will be encouraged to develop the skills to support this. Where homeworking is required, you will be given the necessary equipment however, you will need to arrange your own internet connectivity.
Please note that community hubs are open from 9am – 6pm plus one late night a week closing at 7pm and Saturday from 9am – 5.30 pm. You will be required to work on a rota basis and this will include some evening and weekend work. You will primarily be based at Grangetown Hub although may be required to work from other hub locations when needed e.g. Butetown Pavilion Hub, STAR Hub, on a rota basis and whose opening hours may vary.

Our Corporate Trainees gain valuable experience working for the largest Council in Wales. Whilst we cannot guarantee that the appointed candidate will go on to secure a further role at the end of this initial contract, they will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation, in order to progress their career.

This post is temporary for 6 months for a full time employee or longer for a part time employee. Most roles are based on a 37 hour week although many roles can be worked on a part time basis.
This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £9.30 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
