Our Highway Maintenance Operations Team is looking to employ a Corporate Trainee based at based at Brindley Road Depot, Brindley Road, Cardiff, CF11 8TX to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver the frontline maintenance of highway assets including Street lighting, Drainage, High Speed Routes/Public Rights of Way, and undertaking Footways and Carriageway repairs.

About the job

In this Corporate Trainee role, you will support our service and will learn to:

  • Effectively and safely carry out a wide range of maintenance activities on the highway through gaining practical experience and relevant qualifications. This will cover a broad range of services while working alongside crews of mobile operatives.
  • Support the operational teams, completing common tasks associated with highway defect repairs, street lighting, drainage and high-speed routes.
  • Ensure all works are completed in accordance with resource, time implications and the Council’s policies and client requirements.
  • Gain an understanding of human resource policies, finance, procurement and administration requirements.

Full training will be provided by our Team who will help and encourage you to develop in the role and you will be encouraged to take on a variety of duties. You will receive supervision and on the job training and will have a named mentor to support you to deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive, customer-focused manner.

The Corporate Apprentice & Trainee Scheme also provides opportunities to enhance your transferrable skills to help support your career progression.

This post requires working outside in all weather conditions in various locations across Cardiff. Your weekly working hours will be worked in set patterns between Monday-Friday; however some evening or weekend working may be required.

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £12.00 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
