About The Service
The Diversionary Activities team is apart of Cardiff Councils Homeless Multi - Displinary Team. The service is designed to engage clients affected by homelessness into meaningful activities that complement the support offered by the homeless MDT. Our goal is to eqiup people with the tools nescessary to move on into independence through community and peer engagement building social networks through education, training and employment opportunities.
About the job
You will be responsible for creating and delivering meaningful activities for people experiencing homlesness, living in hostels and rough slepping throughout Cardiff. You will work as part of a team of seven diversionary activities officers who will impliment the diversionary activities curriculum and agenda over a seven day period.
The support offered is broken down into the following four areas;
Engagement – Using the assertive outreach model, identifying service users and support needs to signpost into services run through the Diversionary Activities Team and our partners.
Creative and Leisure – To encourage peer and community engagement. Creating positive interpersonal relationships, giving our service users an opportunity to strengthen social networks both amongst each other and within their community by sharing experiences.
Education – To equip service users with the skill set and accreditations needed to enter employment and the volunteering sector, using the open learning model.
Therapy and Counselling – To offer psychological and therapeutic support to service users who have mental health, substance use and cognitive barriers that may prohibit them from living independently.
Volunteering/Work Experience/Apprenticeships/Jobs - Work towards getting our clients work ready by building on their confidence, resilience through volunteering, work experience, apprenticeships and job opportunities.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for experienced, dynamic and motivated individuals. They will need to have a good understanding of homelesness and its related affects on people. Successful candidates will need to be confident, resilliant and robust whilst also being creative, compassionate and also having a good sense of humour.
