Cardiff is growing faster than any other capital city in Europe, and we have an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to join our Trade Waste team within Street Scene, in the delivery of frontline waste operations providing a high standard of service to the businesses of Cardiff.
About the job
As a Driver loader within the Trade Team, you will be responsible for the collection of various types of waste and recycling materials throughout the City. You will be required to drive any vehicle allocated to you to facilitate collections and be responsible for completing driver’s daily returns ensuring any vehicle defects are identified and reported in-line with Council procedure. Your duties will also involve, when required, the loading of various waste streams in various receptacles.
Please Note - This post is full time with operational hours 6.00am-3.45pm Tuesday to Friday. You will be contracted to work Good Friday. Where Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day fall on a contracted working day, subsequent catch-up days, which may include weekend working, will be a mandatory requirement.
What We Are Looking For From You
Minimum of a Class 2 Driving License, Digital Tachograph card and a valid Drivers Certificate of Professional Competence (DCPC) Card are all essential for this role. Also, training in or knowledge of Manual Handling Techniques and Health & Safety at work.
The successful candidate will have experience of working within a large operational team and direct public contact with excellent customer service skills. You will also need to have experience of driving large goods vehicles (LGV) with a sound knowledge of EU driver’s hour’s legislation which must be always managed and adhered to.

You will be able to quickly adapt to technologies used by the service. You will need to understand and operate in line with Council Policies and Procedures. You must maintain the reputation of the Council by adopting a professional and courteous approach.
