About The Service

TThe Targeted Support Service is part of the Education directorate within Cardiff council. The Service is made up of several teams- Education Welfare, Education Other Than At School, Project Search and Cardiff Youth Service.

The service offers support to schools and other education provisions and  young people  and is responsible for direct delivery of formal, non-formal and informal education. 

About the job

The post holder will act as an important link between Education and the Youth Justice Service ( YJS). They will work within the Education directorate to develop our reporting practice and processes to ensure the best possible outcomes for young people in Cardiff.  The post will be responsible for identifying barriers to education, employment and training and help to remove these barriers.

What We Are Looking For From You

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work directly with education and YJS colleagues to identify barriers to education, employment and training. Link with support services to help remove the barriers to retain or reintegrate young people
  • Work with Youth Service colleagues to integrate YJS information into the Vulnerability Assessment profile.
  • Ensure joint Education/Youth Justice Service (YJS) systems adhere to participation standards.
  • Develop reporting practice and processes within the Educational Directorate to improve the monitoring of and outcomes of young people in the Youth Justice Service wherever they are educated.
  • Provide advice, support, and challenge to teams within the directorate, schools and other directorates re the education and the well-being needs of young people in the Youth Justice Service
  • Develop critical relationships to ensure processes work together in child centred approaches to meet the holistic needs young people in the Youth Justice system
  • Act as the Education and YJS link to the Ensuring Access process within education including challenging schools and other settings where young people are not offered full-time provision.
  • Be the main education link in supporting YJS/Children’s services process such as the High-Risk Panel
  • Work directly with the SAFE project group to support and facilitate contextual safeguarding approaches
