In March 2019 Cardiff Council declared a climate emergency and published the One Planet Cardiff Strategy. This sets the ambition to become a carbon neutral Council and a carbon neutral city by 2030.
Cardiff today is a three-planet city: if everyone in the world consumed natural resources and generated carbon dioxide at the rate we do in Cardiff, three planets would be required to support us.
Sustainable development is a guiding principle for all of the Council's activities. Working in the Strategic Estates Department, the Energy Manager will develop and regularly review comprehensive corporate strategies and policies to maximise, promote and implement energy efficiency measures throughout the estate.
About the job
Concentrating within the Property Estate and Built Environment, the Energy Manager will focus on measuring, reducing and reporting the Council’s carbon output whilst also identifying and implementing offsetting opportunities.
Working both across the Council and with external government agencies / departments, the Energy Manager will work to reduce carbon output from the estate in a way that maximises wider benefits for Cardiff, meets carbon reduction targets and ensures a fairer and healthier society.
Responsible for a small team, the post will introduce and maintain energy performance management measures to monitor the Council's use of energy within property through new technology, equipment and systems contributing towards efficient energy management.
What We Are Looking For From You
Cardiff Council are looking for a creative and enthusiastic candidate to embrace the challenge of achieving a carbon neutral estate by 2030. Candidates should have an appropriate energy / environment related qualifications plus experience of successfully implementing energy projects. The successful candidate will have an understanding of relevant IT systems and technology used to manage and store energy data, plus experience in report writing and presenting energy information.
Additional information
Based in County Hall / COVID adapted working, the post operates for 37 hours per week between Monday to Friday.
