About The Service

The Cardiff Capital Region is comprised of ten local authorities:  Blaenau Gwent; Bridgend; Caerphilly; Cardiff; Merthyr Tydfil; Monmouthshire; Newport; Rhondda Cynon Taff; Torfaen; and Vale of Glamorgan.

The £1.3bn Cardiff Capital Region City Deal signals a region that is ‘open for business’ and the role of the CCR City Deal is to develop and promote the way in which business will be delivered – but certainly not in a business as usual way. Our mantra is good growth and we want to drive the kind of enterprise development that is genuinely sustainable, inclusive and meaningful to the 1.5m people who live in the region – in our many diverse towns, cities, valleys and rural areas. The City Deal has three major targets to fulfil – to increase by 5% GVA, deliver 25, 000 new high skills jobs and leverage £4bn in private investment.

About the job

The purpose of the role is to provide the strategic direction for the deployment of our investment fund in support of our three investment priorities of innovation, infrastructure, and challenge.  We want to inspire creativity and show that we are able to live off our interest and not our capital. City Deal is no silver bullet – but it does provide the opportunity to break with dependency and set out a new path on the road to not just better productivity, but enhanced prosperity for all and real public value.

What We Are Looking For From You

As a respected senior leader in driving and fostering strategic projects for economic well-being, you will have a highly developed understanding of the complex mix of components to stimulate economic prosperity across the region.  You will think and act strategically and be able to covert concepts and high level investment propositions into meaningful and realistic delivery.  You will bring commercial acumen and flair, whilst at the same time, demonstrating a strong commitment to social justice and public value creation. You will be a creative problem-solver and display the determination and grit to get the job done.  You will be high energy, proactive and resourceful and led by your desire to do the right things and not the easy things. The ability to apply good judgement, understand context and make decisions based on evidence and insight will be key.

The successful applicant will have excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability, focus and drive to successfully deliver complex programmes.
