About The Service

The Cardiff Capital Region is comprised of ten local authorities: Blaenau Gwent; Bridgend; Caerphilly; Cardiff; Merthyr Tydfil; Monmouthshire; Newport; Rhondda Cynon Taff; Torfaen; and Vale of Glamorgan.

The £1.3bn Cardiff Capital Region City Deal signals a region that is ‘open for business’ and the role of the CCR City Deal is to develop and promote the way in which business will be delivered – but certainly not in a business as usual way. Our mantra is good growth and we want to drive the kind of enterprise development that is genuinely sustainable, inclusive and meaningful to the 1.5m people who live in the region – in our many diverse towns, cities, valleys and rural areas. The City Deal has three major targets to fulfil – to increase by 5% GVA, deliver 25,000 new high skills jobs and leverage £4bn in private investment. Underpinning this is a desire to create an innovative region fuelled by competitive, industry-led clusters. This is an exciting time to join CCR, as we embark on the next stage of our mission.

About the job

The Innovation Officer will work within the Innovation & Clusters team, supporting the development of a strongly competitive innovation-led ecosystem, built upon investments in our priority clusters – FinTech, MedTech, Creative Industries, Cyber and Compound Semiconductor.

The post-holder will support the Cluster Development Manager in developing relationships with organisations across academia, private and public sectors. They will develop a deep understanding of the sector needs and implement ways to engage organisations, drive inclusive economic growth through investment and intervention and measure success. Through a combination of cluster collaboration and independent research, they will develop business cases for multi-million pound propositions that will deliver against Cardiff Capital Region’s key performance indicators.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for a driven individual to support our work with CCR priority clusters and, in doing so, support the delivery of our overall cluster strategies and broader innovation strategy. You will have an understanding of regional economies and innovation ecosystems, and experience of developing and writing funding business cases, for the commercial, academic and / or public sectors. You will understand how to engage diverse stakeholder groups and organisations, establishing strong relationships. You will also be able to manage and track projects as they develop, including reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with one of the priority sectors (FinTech, Creative, Cyber Security and Medical Devices), and previous experience of working in at least one of those areas will be an advantage.
