About The Service
Do you love dogs? We are currently looking for a Kennel Assistant at Cardiff Dogs Home. As part of a very busy frontline service that deals with around 700 dogs each year, you will be required to assist the Council in discharging its responsibilities relating to stray dogs and encouraging responsible dog ownership. Work days will vary and will include weekends.
About the job
The core tasks are caring for and handling dogs in a kennel environment including cleaning, feeding and exercising them, looking after their health and welfare, assessing their behaviour and matching them for re-homing. You will be dealing with queries and complaints from members of the public in relation to the impounding of stray dogs and their subsequent return to owner or re-homing.
Other tasks will include updating the website, using Council IT systems, keeping records up to date, micro-chipping, undertaking cleaning and disinfection of the kennels and maintaining bio-security.

- Experience of administering and recording medication for dogs
- Experience of the assessment of canine behaviour

Additional information
This post is full time, but is suitable for post share on a 16 hour/21 hour split. Please stipulate in your application which hours you are applying for (e.g. full time, part time - 16 hours or part time - 21 hours).

This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £12.00 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
