About The Service
Cardiff is one of the fastest growing and most highly-skilled cities in Britain. The city economy is growing, jobs and businesses are being created and the city’s population is set to continue to expand.
The Planning Service contains three Teams: Planning Policy; Strategic Development Management & Placemaking; and Non-Strategic Development Management & Enforcement. Together, we play a key role in delivering and managing the growth of the city through the following work:
- putting in place a plan-led policy framework - preparing plans and guidance;
- delivering new developments through a masterplanning and placemaking approach;
- providing an efficient development management service - effectively processing the highest number of planning applications in Wales; and
- continually working to improve performance and efficiency.
The positive outcomes of the Service’s work include:
- bringing forward the homes people need, especially affordable homes;
- generating significant investment in the city and supporting the local economy;
- approving new schemes which create a wide range of jobs;
- securing new infrastructure from development proposals;
- approving schemes which support the role of the city centre and local centres;
- ensuring new development responds positively to local context;
- creating places where people like to live, work and visit; and
- preserving and enhancing the built and natural environment.
About the job
This post is within the Non-Strategic Development Management and Enforcement team, which handles the largest number of applications of any authority in Wales by some margin. The Team has very good performance and high customer satisfaction levels, which continue to improve each year despite the large caseload.
The Team handle a range of applications; from advertisement consent and householder alterations, to larger housing and commercial schemes which contribute to the planned growth of the city as set out within the LDP.
In helping to effectively manage how Cardiff develops, the post holder will join the Team to provide technical assistance, supporting Planning Officers with the processing of planning applications and appeal work. The role also includes the maintenance and enhancement of development management records and GIS resources, together with responding to development management/permitted development queries.

What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for highly motivated individuals who can provide efficient and effective technical assistance to the planning service and manage a busy and a varied workload of general planning enquiries.
You will have good communication skills and have experience of delivering a customer focused service in a professional environment.
Previous experience of working within development management or a related area is desirable.
