About The Service

Cardiff’s Parks and green spaces provide a wealth of facilities for children and young people to enjoy outdoor activity. The city’s 150+ playgrounds, skate parks, multi-use games areas and other teen facilities have seen levels of use not previously experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic and this new role has been created to head up a small, dedicated team to maintain, manage and plan future provision.

About the job

You will be responsible for the management and maintenance of current and future provision of safe, clean and attractive play areas, skate parks, outdoor adult fitness areas and multi-use games areas throughout Cardiff, including contracted sites and community councils.

You will direct the workload of the Playground team and be responsible for allocation of the annual playground revenue budget, to include preparation of reports and recommendations on current and future spending priorities. You will also work closely with the Parks based design team to deliver cost effective and sustainable refurbishments of existing playgrounds as part

What We Are Looking For From You

You will need to have practical experience as a playground inspector or manager and a good understanding of the legislative and risk management environment that impacts on fixed equipment play provision. A working knowledge of asset management issues would also be beneficial.

You will need to be flexible and adaptable, with an eye for detail, and an ability to analyse and interpret plans and data. You must be accurate, with excellent administration and organisational skills, and an ability to communicate with people at all levels. The ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint to an Intermediate level is essential. Experience of the use of Playsafe asset management software or similar, would also be beneficial.

Above all, you must have a “can-do” attitude, be able to solve problems under your own initiative, and be able to initiate and prioritise your own work as well as directing the work of others, to react to the demands of the service.

Owing to the nature of the role, the post-holder will be required to attend some meetings and events outside of normal working hours.
