About The Service
An opportunity is available within the Council’s Performance and Partnerships Team for a Principal Research Officer (Equality and Inclusion).
The role will be responsible for supporting the development and coordination of actions across the Council, and its partners, to promote inclusion and engagement in Cardiff. The role will focus on major issues such as promoting race equality and supporting the Council’s broader Equality Strategy.
The work of the Team is closely aligned to the strategic priorities of the organisation and its public service partners and will work closely with all Council services areas to help them understand the views of citizens.
About the job
This role will support the council deliver the agreed recommendations of the Council’s Race Equality Task Force, and the wider Equalities Strategy, by ensuring they are appropriately embedded in the Council’s Planning and Performance Framework.
The role will also support the development and delivery of the Council’s Participation strategy, focusing on removing barriers and strengthening engagement with under-represented groups.
It will require policy development, research and advocacy on issues pertaining to equality and inclusion in Cardiff, whilst supporting Cabinet and Senior Management Team on strategic policy issues, including the provision of briefings, speeches and policy analysis
A key component of the role will be supporting service areas to develop and maintain robust equality monitoring practices

The Council has adopted hybrid working practices which apply to this role, meaning most of the work can be undertaken either in the office, at home, or at another suitable location. There will still be a requirement to visit the office occasionally for certain meetings as needed.

What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for an individual with extensive experience of equality and inclusion.
You will have strong communication and writing skills, able to research reports, and present information clearly and effectively for a range of different audiences, from senior managers to end users.
You will have experience of promoting equality through a range of interventions with an understanding of how data and business intelligence can improve outcomes.
A good level of ICT competency will be a pre-requisite, specifically, familiarity with Microsoft Office. Experience of more specialist tools, such as Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, or Microsoft Power BI would also be advantageous.
