The Targeted Support, Early Help and Engagement service is part of the Education directorate. It comprises of the Education Welfare, Engagement, Education Other than at School and Youth Services. As such it performs a number of safeguarding, welfare and education roles, providing information, support and guidance as well as delivering formal, non-formal and informal education. It works closely with statutory and non-statutory partners

About the job

In September 21’, Cardiff Education Service and the Vale of Glamorgan Education Service will be launching DFN Project SEARCH in partnership with Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. This is a one-year supported internship programme for young people with learning disabilities, difficulties and/or autism, who require supported skills building opportunities to prepare for employment.

The students will be based at the Heath Hospital in Cardiff and will be supported by a team that includes a teacher, job coach and business mentors with the aim of:
• creating an employment goal;
• supporting transition from school to work; and
• obtaining full time employment at the end of the year.

This post can also be offered as a secondment opportunity, however you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking to recruit a Teacher to work as part of a team who will support a small group of young people through this programme:
Key responsibilities will be as follows:
• Co-ordinate the delivery of a transition to work programme for a small group of young people with learning difficulties/disabilities based at the Heath Hospital.
• Deliver an employability curriculum whilst embedding Maths and English and support young people’s development towards employability.
• Identify student’s strengths, interests, and abilities related to skill acquisition, job development and employment.
• Maintain student learning plans, setting appropriate long-term goals and short-term targets with students based on participation and skill development. Review learning plans and record progress.

Additional information

The salary you are paid for this role will depend on your experience:
Unqualified Scale - £18,169 - £28,735
Main Pay Scale - £27,018 - £37,320
Upper Pay Scale - £38,690 - £41,604
