Based in City Hall, the Registration Service deals with births, marriage and deaths that take place in Cardiff, as well as nationality and citizenship services. Customer service is at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on ensuring a high standard of service is offered to everyone we deal with.

 

About the job

We have a vacancy for a part time Registrar of Births, Deaths & Marriages. The post includes statutory responsibility for the legal registration of births, deaths, stillbirths, marriages, civil partnerships and naturalisation of British Citizens at the Register Office and other approved locations in the City of Cardiff.

 

The role will involve:

• interviewing parents and relatives after a birth or death

• issuing legal documents authorising burial or cremation following registration

• attesting legal notices of marriages / civil partnership

• completing computerised and paper records

• issuing birth or death certificates

• informing the coroner if there are suspicious circumstances surrounding a death

• collecting statistics to send to the General Register Office

• producing and taking payment for copies of certificates

• keeping accurate records

• performing civil ceremonies for events like marriages, civil partnerships, naming and citizenship

• reporting suspicious marriages or civil partnerships to the Home Office

• working from various locations such community hubs, venues such as hotels / castles and on occasion from home

• requirement to wear a uniform

 

What We Are Looking For From You

Our customer's depend on us to keep delivering registration services even in the most challenging of times. We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated and interested in making a difference to our customers by delivering exceptional public services in Cardiff.

 

We are looking for someone who has previous experience of working in a busy customer focused environment who has public speaking skills and is an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing. The successful candidate must be highly organised, have the ability to be attentive to detail, competent in the use of IT systems and able to deal with individuals in an emphatic way whilst providing professional advice and guidance. We are looking for a individual with a positive attitude to new challenges, a flexible approach to work and someone who is able to work well under pressure using their own initiative, as well as work as part of a team.

 

Additional information

This post is part time and will work 26.00 hours per week. The pro-rata salary is £18,218 to £21,147 per annum.

A Full valid driving licence and use of own car is essential.

You must be available to work flexibly including weekends and on public holidays as required by the needs of the service.
