Cardiff is growing faster than any other major city in the UK outside of London and is projected to grow more than every other local authority in Wales combined.  Cardiff Council’s Transport White Paper lays out an ambitious 10-year plan to tackle the climate emergency, reduce congestion and improve air quality in the Welsh capital.  The Council is working with our regional partners, Welsh Government and Transport for Wales to make sure that the right transport infrastructure is in place to provide real choices for people travelling into Cardiff from the wider region.

Design and management of the Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) Telematics assets and delivery of large scale renewal and replacement projects is critical.

About the job

The post holder will be provide essential continuity in scheme design, specification verification and decision making to add much needed resilience for the capital programme delivery requirements, providing support to the Team Leader and supporting a section of technical and/or operational staff that achieves objectives set by the Directorate.

The post holder will operate where required in informal or matrix managed teams to deliver projects for the Directorate.  This will include team working to coordinate and plan work, agree priorities with members of the team and ensure there is resilience in delivery. This is a 12 month secondment post.

What We Are Looking For From You

This key position requires an enthusiastic and flexible individual that will be suitably qualified or have the equivalent demonstrable professional experience in ITS design.  They will need to demonstrate leadership skills to support others to achieve good performance, manage and monitor budgets, develop tender documentation / designs and have an ability to communicate to a high standard.

 

Candidates will need proven experience of working in a multi-disciplined environment and dealing with external utilities or contractors.

 

Candidates will need a strong understanding of the highways and transport related environment, sustainable travel and applying highway and transport policies.

Experience of designing ITS schemes and in particular complex traffic signal junctions will be essential.
