An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Corporate Revenues Section of the Revenues Division, for the position of Senior Control Officer, within the Control Team.

The Control Team is responsible for the day-to-day technical administration & management of the NEC (Northgate) billing system. The work of the team ensures that all the Billing, Collection and Recovery processes undertaken by the Revenues Division are actioned in a timely and accurate manner, so that all taxes and charges levied are collected as efficiently and effectively as possible, including Council Tax, NNDR, Business Improvement Districts, Parking Fines and Moving Traffic Offences.

 

About the job

The Control Team is the technical hub of all the Revenues functions, with the biggest and most important task being the Annual Billing process that is undertaken at each financial year-end. In addition, the team facilitates & administers the collection of direct debits for Council Tax & NNDR. The team ensures bills, reminders, final notices, and summonses are issued correctly and in a timely manner, in support of the collection and recovery processes. 

The successful candidate will play a key role in the Control Team, providing technical support to the Revenues Division, using a number of software applications, including the NEC (Northgate) Billing System, which is the primary IT application used to administer the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates, and the Cardiff Business Improvement District Levy (BIDS).

The post will also assist the Principal Control Officer in the collation and monitoring of the daily & monthly collection statistics.

What We Are Looking For From You

It is a challenging and varied role and the successful candidate will need to possess technical experience in the function and application of a wide range of IT software applications, including Excel; be analytical in their approach to work and have the ability to develop practical solutions to customer problems. The ability to work to deadlines and prioritise workload is essential.

Additional information

The post will occasionally be required to work outside normal office hours and represent the Authority at User Group meetings.
