Cardiff Youth Service offers a range of provisions for young people aged 11-25 and consists of a talented and enthusiastic team of professional youth workers who operate across the city. This set up consists of youth centres, specialist provisions, youth mentoring and street based youth work teams that all provide a wide variety of creative opportunities and experiences that encourage the participation and development of young people in communities.

About the job
An exciting opportunity has become available within Cardiff Council’s Education directorate for a Senior Youth Officer. This post is based within the Youth Service.
The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic youth service team who are working with many young people across the city. The youth service comprises of 14 operational teams that work in different areas or fields of youth work that are all working towards the same overarching goal. The aim of your role will be to develop and manage one of these teams, to promote and encourage engagement in youth services, education, training, volunteering and employment to young people across the city. This will be done through various interventions and in partnership with other organisations.
Experience of managing a team is essential for this role. All our teams are committed to a brief solution focused therapy approach, and this is reflected in engagement, planning, delivery, evaluation and will require you to have a positive commitment to the supervision and support model provided to all staff.
A clear understanding of the importance of assessing the needs of young people and responding appropriately through engagement, advocacy and brokerage with a range of partners and providers is vital for this role.
What We Are Looking For From You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic and professional youth worker who will encourage creativity and inspire innovation within their team. The successful post holder will have a nurturing and empathic approach.
We are looking for a youth worker who has a positive attitude and resilience to be able to develop a team that will impact positively on the lives of young people and encourage progression.
The successful candidate will be qualified to Youth and Community degree level and will have a proven track record of working with young people in a variety of settings to secure positive outcomes.
A focus on strength-based practice that is young person centred, is also a fundamental requirement. We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate successful experience of working with hard-to-reach young people with multiple complex needs, with young people who are experiencing poverty and barriers to progression.
We are looking for a proactive individual who has a clear understanding of how to navigate the support landscape in Cardiff and who has a clear understanding of information, support and guidance themes for young people.
We are looking for management experience to include a clear track record of performance management and monitoring processes as well as experience of working and communicating effectively with partner agencies.
Additional information
Salary: £37,534 - £40,550 per annum PRO RATA (T00 4A Level 24-27)
This post has a requirement for registration with the Education Workforce Council.
