About The Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Highway Maintenance Operations Street Lighting team for an Electrical/Street Lighting Supervisor. The team are responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of the Council’s highway street lighting assets and support other departments in the maintenance of their associated equipment.

About the job

The core functions of this post will be to supervise and line manage a team of Electricians/Driver Lamp Attendants within the Highway Maintenance Operations section. You will prioritise incoming work from all customers/service areas and issue work in accordance with the Council’s policies, resource, and time constraints. You will be required to manage maintenance and installation works associated with the adopted highway and other assets. In addition you will be responsible for ensuring the health and safety of the team’s delivery to customers, including carrying out site safety visits, and responding to all emergencies that need remedial repair/to be made safe.

In addition to the core functions, you will also be required to participate in the highway emergency response and winter maintenance services, including potential weekend and evening/night work.

What We Are Looking For From You

Must have experience of electrical installation work to City and Guilds C certificate standard and in highway maintenance.

Must possess, or be in the process of obtaining, a street works (supervisor) and NHSS Sector 8 Qualified Supervisor status.

Be flexible and adaptable in how work is delivered.

This post requires:

  • Working knowledge of on-site health and safety.
  • Ability to participate in out-of-hours call out and supervise planned works out of normal working times.
  • Use of technology and I.T. equipment.
  • Working outdoors in all weather conditions and various locations within the city and county of Cardiff.
  • Maintaining the reputation of the Council by adopting a professional and courteous approach.
