The social care training unit is restructuring i order to better meet the training and development needs of Adult and Children's Services and the wider social care workforce in Cardiff. This is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of training and development of Social Work Students, Newly Qualified Social Workers and those undertaking post qualifying awards.

About the job

This is a part-time, 18.5hrs per week post.

In conjunction with the Training Manager, the post holder will contribute to employee development in accordance with the principles of the Social Care Wales Workforce Development Programme, that seeks to promote competent and qualified workers in Social Care. The successful candidate will support the delivery of quality student social worker practice-based learning opportunities to meet Local Authority hosting requirements.

The post holder will be required to support Assessors for social work students and social workers undertaking post qualifying awards as the need arises, and oversee access to continuing professional education and learning programmes for social work employees, working closely with candidates and team managers to support engagement.

Planning, commissioning and supporting independent practice-based assessment in line with the Council’s procurement rules is required as well as monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of professional development programmes of study and student / candidate assessment arrangements.

The post holder will need to work closely with Partner HEI programmes to support the management and delivery of social work qualifying and post qualifying programmes.
Close working with Team Managers / mentors to support the implementation of the Local Authority’s model of support for Social Workers within the first three years of practice is also essential.

Monitoring the placements for students both internally and externally and intervening as required, to ensure that quality SW placements are offered is a key feature of the role.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for someone with a Social Work Qualification who is registered with Social Care Wales and has a Practice Assessing qualification e.g. PQ 6; Enabling Practice award. You will need to demonstrate post qualifying experience working as a social worker within a statutory social care setting and experience of working as a Practice Assessor to a number of student social workers. An understanding of Social Care Wales Rules and Requirements for Social Work Education in Wales, the Assessment
Framework for the Social Work Degree in Wales & National Occupational Standards for Social Work is essential as experience of assessing and mentoring social workers undertaking post qualification programmes.
