About the job

An exciting opportunity has become available within Cardiff Council’s Education directorate for a Youth Mentor. This post is grant funded and based with the Youth Service as part of the Early Intervention & Prevention Team.

You will be part of a dynamic and enthusiastic team who are working with young people with complex needs, within an allocated secondary school. The aim of your role will be to ‘promote engagement in education, training, volunteering and ultimately employment, this will be done through various interventions.

Experience of working with young people who are marginalised is vital for this role. A focus on strength based practice that is young person centred is also a fundamental requirement. The team are committed to a brief solution focused therapy approach and this is reflected in planning, delivery, evaluation as well as the supervision and support model.

What We Are Looking For From You

We are looking for enthusiastic and dynamic youth workers who will encourage creativity and innovation to inspire and motivate young people through mentoring interventions on a daily basis.

We are looking for youth workers who have positive attitudes and resilience to be able to impact positively on the lives of young people and encourage progression.

The successful candidates will be qualified to at least youth support worker level 3 and have a proven track record of working with young people to secure positive outcomes.
We are looking for youth workers who have experience of assessing the needs of young people and respond appropriately through advocacy and brokerage with a range of partners and providers.

We are looking for proactive individuals who have a clear understanding of how to navigate the support landscape in Cardiff.

You will be professionally qualified and registered with the Education Workforce Council.

Additional information

Salary: £27,678 per annum PRO RATA (T00 Level 15)

This post is part time and will work 30 hours per week (term time only). The salary shown however relates to 37 hours per week and will therefore be pro-rata’d accordingly.
