Am Y Gwasanaeth

Bilingual Cardiff is leading the development of a truly bilingual Cardiff where everyone in the capital can access services and support in Welsh or English alike. The number of Welsh speakers in Cardiff has doubled over the past 25 years, and Cardiff is an increasingly bilingual city. As a local authority, we are working with private and third sector companies as part of the wider Bilingual Cardiff strategy to seek to promote and support the Welsh language in Cardiff. This new and forward-thinking approach aims to break down the walls between Welsh and English, promote bilingualism as perfectly natural and ensure that the Council's vision of creating a truly bilingual Cardiff is realised.

Am Y Swydd

You will lead in relation to quality assurance, ensuring that translation standards are consistently maintained across all pieces of work, that the house style and translation guidelines are adhered to, and that complaints are resolved in a timely and professional manner ensuring the best outcome for the Council and client.

You will also be expected to translate documents and materials from Welsh to English and from English to Welsh to ensure bilingual provision in line with the requirements of the Welsh Language Standards prepared under the Welsh Language (Wales) Bill 2011 and to ensure that all work is accurate and translated to a high standard for the public and staff.

Beth Rydym Ei Eisiau Gennych

As well as leading in relation to quality assurance, ensuring that translation standards are consistently maintained across the team and determining the translation unit’s terminology, you will also have the ability and experience to deliver the highest quality translations to the Authority's external directorates and clients, meeting and exceeding daily word targets.

You will need to decide on the unit’s terminology going forward, using your own intuition for appropriate translation and researching other organisations' decisions on new terms and terminology i.e. Welsh Government, and liaise with the Head Translator - Systems regarding updating the terminology within the translation software to ensure the consistency and quality of translation work across the team as a whole.
