Parks Services are responsible for the management and maintenance of all Council owned trees. Working within a positive and progressive environment an exciting and challenging opportunity exists for a self motivated, enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate a genuine interest in arboriculture / tree management and the desire to become a professional Arborist.
About the job
You will be required to work outdoors carrying out a wide range of tree maintenance operations utilising a variety of arboricultural and horticultural machinery. You will also be required to undertake a residential block release course of study leading to a formal qualification in Arboriculture which will be supplemented by a tailored programme of in-house and relevant practical chainsaw and tree-climbing training, to attain all relevant NPTC arboricultural qualifications.
What We Are Looking For From You
Academic qualifications are not essential, the willingness to learn and develop new skills including tree climbing are. Tasks undertaken will be physically demanding and will be required to be undertaken at heights

Internal candidates who wish to apply for this position on a secondment basis must obtain approval prior to application using Form SEC1 (4.C.081). Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
This salary is subject to the Living Wage Supplement that tops up the basic rate of pay to £12.60 per hour. The supplement will be reviewed every April. Cardiff Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage Supplement.
