Our Central Transport Services Team is looking to employ a Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) Fleet Business Support Assistant based at Central Transport Services, Coleridge Road Depot CF11 8BT, to contribute to our Service helping us to deliver administration and management of the Council’s fleet of over 1400 assets comprising cars, vans, HGV’s and plant equipment.

About the job

In this Corporate Apprentice (Level 2) role you will learn to:

  • Provide excellent customer service by telephone, email, face to face or online
  • Learn to undertake general office administration in a digital environment using software applications such as Word, Excel and our specialised Fleet Management system
  • Develop an understanding of road transport legislation and fleet / HGV operations

To support your development, you will undertake a Welsh Government Apprenticeship Framework Qualification in Digital Skills for Business Level 2 in the role and will receive on the job training and supervision to help you deliver an efficient and effective service in a positive and customer focussed manner. You will also be supported by your manager and a named mentor who will encourage you to develop a range of transferrable skills to support your career progression.

As a Corporate Apprentice, you will gain valuable experience working for Cardiff - the largest Council in Wales. Although we cannot guarantee that you will go on to secure a further role at the end of the initial contract, you will be supported and encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities available within our organisation to help progress your career.

This post is temporary for 21 months if worked full time, or longer if worked part time. Most roles are based on a 37-hour week though many roles can be worked on a part time basis at a minimum of 16 hours per week for apprentice roles.

Requests may only be approved by the relevant Director/ Assistant Director/ Chief Officer or senior nominated officer graded no lower than OM2 or in the case of schools based staff the Headteacher / Governing Body.
